Viva Las Vegas !

C'est la troisième fois pour Jean et moi que nous visitons Las Vegas et je dois avouer que l'on ne s'en lasse pas... Entre le Las Vegas historique et le 'Strip', il y a toujours un hôtel, un buffet, un spectacle à découvrir ou redécouvrir.
Les hôtels sont tellement luxueux et tous aussi différents les uns que les autres que je pourais passer des heures et des heures à marcher pour tous les voir.
Nous avons déjeuné au Pampas Brazilian Grill qui est un buffet avec des viandes marinées que l'on vous sert à table mais qui ne nous a pas laissé un souvenir inoubliable... Passez votre chemin, il y a des buffets bien meilleurs ici !

Le secret lorsque vous visitez Las Vegas est de surtout y vivre la nuit. Et même si jouer aux machines à sous ou aux cartes ne vous enchante guère, Las Vegas est tout aussi magique pour ses spectacles en tout genre, ses buffets à volonté, ses décors majestueux et ses boutiques luxueuses.
Après une journée à voir la ville de jour et de nuit (ce qui est totalement différent), mes tantes ont admis que c'était vraiment une ville à visiter, même si à l'origine cà n'était pas dans leur programme: Venetian, Wynn, Mandalay Bay, Luxor, Excalibur, Caesars Palace etc ... et mon préféré, le Bellagio avec ses fontaines majestueuses qui se déclenchent toutes les demi heures en après-midi et tous les quarts d'heure après 20 heures ! Jamais je ne m'en lasserais !

Pour bien terminer la journée, nous avons assisté au spectacle "Mystère" du Cirque du Soleil à Treasure Island. Nous avons payé $66 la place au lieu de $82.50 grâce à TIX4Tonight.


Une autre bonne surprise de la journée a été l'Artisan hôtel.
Réservation de dernière minute sur internet, nous ne savions de quel hôtel il s'agissait qu’àprès avoir payé. Merci Shiu !
Situé au nord du strip, cet hôtel nous a tous épatés.
Une fois passée la porte d'entrée, la réception fait un contraste saisissant avec l'extérieur qui est souvent très lumineux et caniculaire. Les murs, le mobilier, les peintures au plafond, tout est de couleur sombre ou noire... On se demande un instant si nous ne nous sommes pas trompés de building... ou si nous sommes dans un remake de la famille Adams... Mais non, c'est bien ca... Les couloirs qui mènent aux chambres sont dans le même style, murs, sols et plafond noirs avec des peintures tous les 10 centimètres... Chaque chambre porte un numéro et le nom d'un artiste pour lequel la chambre ne comporte que des œuvres de cet artiste. Et dans la même continuation, les chambres sont d'un ton sombre ainsi que la salle de bain de couleur noire... Mais bizarement, une fois passé l'effet de surprise, l'agencement et les nombreux tableaux font que l'on se sent bien et que l'hôtel vous plonge dans une atmosphère tout à fait particulière.... Attention toutefois à demander les chambres orientées sud, sinon vous allez subir les bruits de l'autoroute qui passe juste devant...
Nous en avons aussi profité pour faire un tour dans la piscine dont l'eau était chaude comme un sauna et qui nous a permis de nous remettre de tous ces kilomètres parcourus.

My first Snowboarding experience...

Last year, I have tried ski for the second time of my life.

It was at Bear Valley and I enjoyed it.
Today, I wanted to try snowboarding.

I was very motivated but, after 5 minutes on the track, I did regret my choice...
You need to get one foot attached to the board before taking the chair lift which almost guarantee you to fall once you reach the top. Then, it is not as easy to attach your second foot to the board. Last but not least: go down this hill without falling! Mission impossible!!!
Having both of your feet attached to a single piece of board is pretty disturbing and I felt pretty hard on my shoulder, my knees, my hand, my butt...

I forgot to mention that we went snowboarding in Heavenly, one of the most popular and expensive mountain resort in Lake Tahoe ($78/person the one-day lift ticket). Being beginners, it was a big waste because we only used very few of the lifts and the view on the lake was completely concealed by a snow storm in the afternoon.
At least, now I know which one I prefer: ski!. Let's give it a shot again tomorrow.

Mamma Mia! @ Las Vegas

Good news! As I finally get my monday off at work, we decided to head out to Las Vegas for the 4 days Christmas week-end with Pau Din and Yann.
Not a minute to loose, we went to pick the rental car ($171.76 for one week), a Pontiac Grand Prix, a little before midnight friday night: a 2 hours waiting line... no kidding ! Then, we put the luggages in the trunk and zoom, 8 hours and 532 miles later, Las Vegas here we are !

To fill our starving stomachs, we first stopped at the Main Street Station Hotel for its recommended buffet in the old Las Vegas.
Then, we took some rest at our hotel the "Golden Nugget" ($142.08 for 3 nights).

Las Vegas is famous for its casinos but also for its shows. So, we went to the Mandalay Bay Hotel to see the "Mammia Mia!" Show ($46.25/person). This Broadway hit was created by Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus' with 22 of ABBA's greatest hits woven into an irresistible love story. We were all enchanted by the show. If you are a fan of ABBA, it is a must see !

For those who lived in an igloo the last 35 years (...), ABBA was a Swedish pop/dance group active from 1972 until 1982. The quartet was formed through the friendship of Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus and their respective girlfriends Anni-Frid Lyngstad and Agnetha Fältskog. Together, they topped charts worldwide from the mid-1970s to the early 1980s. The name "ABBA" is an acronym of the first initials of each members name: A for Anni-frid (Frida), B for Benny, B for Bjorn and A for Agnetha.
By goggling on the net, I also found out that the movie "Mamma Mia!" will be released this summer 2008.

4th Annual San Francisco LoveFest

Global DJ - San Francisco

This Saturday, it was the 4th San Francisco LoveFest and, we were IN!
There was over 65,000 people partying to more than 20 floats and 200 DJs spinning.
Pink underwears, pink heels, pink wigs... pink pink pink everywhere! People were all dressed up as if they were in a huge sex shop... and sometimes they wear nothing at all...
I felt like it was a mix between the Gay Pride and the Techno-Parade I have seen in Paris. A king of huge street pre-Halloween party celebrating electronic music, dancing, and, well, love. Except that I was surprised to see so many people naked... Obviously, it is allowed in this king of event because there were also lots of cops but nobody got a warning... For Americans, it is only on those events that they can get loose without almost no limits!

For the record, a festival called Loveparade originated in Berlin in 1989 after the fall of the Berlin Wall, but in 2003, the city denied the parade a permit and the event moved to San Francisco. Last year, when German organizers were able to secure permits back in Berlin, North American organizers decided to continue their own event here and called it the Lovefest. Three other cities around the world sponsor similar celebrations every year.

Saturday Night fire

Saturday night, we went to the farewell party of a friend leaving for a job in London.
Among the people present, there was "Elektra", a fire eater! She performed a demonstration for us and I catched the moment:

The Bourne Ultimatum

Finissons le week-end comme il a commencé : par un cinéma !
Accompagnés de nos amis de Stanford, FF, Christophe et Anastasia, nous avons tout d’abord fait un stop à « Pizza Antica » sur Santana Row. Leurs pizzas tiennent plus de la flamekeuche que de la pizza, mais bon, c’était correct.
Puis direction, notre bon vieux cinéma pour y voir le succès du moment : "The Bourne Ultimatum".
Alors, je dois avouer que ce film m’a rendue malade… C’est entièrement tourné camera au poing, même pour les scènes fixes dans les bureaux de la CIA… Le tout avec succession de courses poursuites pendant près de deux heures à Moscou, Paris, Londres, Tangier et finalement New-York… Si vous allez voir ce film, je conseille fortement de choisir les places le plus au fond de la salle possible ! Sinon, vous allez vous sentir mal tout le long du film comme je l'ai été...
En résumé, il est trop fort ce Jason Bourne, il ne subit pas de décalage horaire, il est super intelligent, fait des super cascades et épargne même la vie de ses adversaires quand il le peut. Je salue les passages d'appart en appart dans la ville de Tangier. Mais perso, j’avais gardé un meilleur souvenir de The Bourne Identity et The Bourne Supremacy. Et après tout ce que j’avais lu dans les medias et notamment les 69,3 millions de dollars d’entrées le week-end d’ouverture, il faut dire que je m’attendais à mieux.

LaserQuest !

Let's do it again !

Pour ceux qui ne connaissent pas le concept, c'est comme une partie de cache-cache dans une pièce obscure avec des miroirs, des recoins, des passages... Le but est de tirer avec son arme infrarouge sur un maximum des 40 autres joyeux "ghosbusters" présents et éviter bien sur d'être touché. Sinon, le gilet vibre et on doit attendre 5 secondes avant de pouvoir retirer. Les cibles a atteindre sont sur le ventre, le dos, les épaules et le gun. Même les personnes un peu sceptiques se prennent vite au jeu et les 20 minutes de partie passent en un éclair. Nous sommes tous ressortis en sueur, c'est que mine de rien ça fait faire de l'exercice !
