Voilà un bon film d'action avec de la rock musique, de la technologie, des méchants, des gentils et un super héro!

Synopsis: Tony Stark is the complete playboy who also happens to be an engineering genius. While in Afghanistan demonstrating a new missile he's captured and wounded. His captors want him to assemble a missile for them but instead he creates an armored suit and a means to prevent his death from the shrapnel left in his chest by the attack. He uses the armored suit to escape. Back in the U.S. he announces his company will cease making weapons and he begins work on an updated armored suit only to find that Obadiah Stane, his second in command at Stark industries has been selling Stark weapons to the insurgents. He uses his new suit to return to Afghanistan to destroy the arms and then to stop Stane from misusing his research.

Dîner entre amis à la maison

Une petite photo souvenir de ce mardi où nous avons eu l'immense plaisir de recevoir à dîner Cécile, Ryad, Clément, Marthe et Fabien pour un BBQ.
Bon, il fait encore un peu frais le soir en cette saison donc nous avons dîné dans le salon pour déguster ce boeuf mariné à ma sauce secréte, le tout arrosé d'un bon vin...
Merci à tous pour cette agréable soirée, ainsi qu'au nouveau Virgile pour sa participation involontaire mais très appreciée... ;o)

A week of training at Oracle University !

To learn new things and keep your skills up-to date, it is worthy once in a while to attend trainings.
And, it is even more recommended if you are working as a software engineer. I will even say, it is vital.


Since 2001, I have been working on the ERP Oracle Applications. At that time, I started to work on the release 11.5.5. Nowadays, I am working on the release 11.5.10.
However, in February 2007, Oracle Corporation released Oracle Applications Release 12. And we all know that little by little, the previous releases will not be supported any more. So, I asked my company to follow the one-week training on "R12 Oracle General Ledger Management Fundamentals" since I am specialized in finance.

Oracle Corporation has its world headquarters on the San Francisco Peninsula in Redwood City. From San Jose, the daily commute was not easy but it was only for 5 days, from 28th April to the 2nd May.
The program to cover in one week was rather dense:
- Oracle General Ledger Process
- Accounting Setup Manager
- Ledger
- Basic and advanced Journal Entries
- Summary Accounts
- Advanced Security
- Financial Budgeting
- Multi-Currency
- Consolidations
- Period Close
- Financial Reporting

R12 introduces new features/concepts as Sub-Ledgers Accounting, Primary and Secondary Ledgers, Target Period etc... Also, half of the Forms are gone to HTML
The disappointed part was that "How to implement R12?" and the "Subledger Accounting" are in a separate class.
For a complete coverage, you also have: R12 Oracle Subledger Accounting Fundamentals (2 days) and R12 Oracle Financials Functional Migration Fundamentals (5 days).
I enjoyed this week on the Oracle Campus and it definitively changed me from my daily grind. I met people doing the same job as mine, and I learned new things on the last version of Oracle Applications!

Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Jose...

Quel programme pour notre dernière journée !...
Notre dernière nuit fut au Stratosphere hotel, à mi-chemin entre le strip et le Las Vegas historique (hotel décevant avec des couloirs interminables et absurdes pour se rendre à la piscine qui est tout aussi décevante...) et notre dernier diner au buffet du Rio.
Nous prenons la route de bon matin pour notre dernière escale: Los Angeles... (photos ici/pictures here)
Après tous ces paysages grandioses, le "Walk of fame" et le "Chinese Theater" n'impressionnent pas des masses mes tantes... Histoire de prouver que nous y sommes passés, nous n'échappons pas à la photo souvenir devant une étoile:

Bilan de notre Road Trip? Près de 3,000 miles parcourus soit environ 4,500 kilomètres en 7 jours...

Par manque de temps, nous n'avons pas pu voir Monument Valley et Antelope Canyon en Arizona. Cà sera pour le prochain Road Trip avec Yellow Stone !

Bryce Canyon - Utah

Bye bye Zion National Park, Bonjour Bryce Canyon !!!
Environ deux heures de route nous amènent dans ce dernier parc naturel de notre Road Trip.
Et là, nous sommes tous époustouflés par la beauté du paysage qui s'offre devant nous... Un peu comme si nous avions gardé le meilleur pour la fin.

Bryce canyon est en fait un gigantesque amphithéâtre naturel créé par l'érosion. L'endroit est rendu remarquable par ses structures géologiques extraordinaires, les hoodoos, formés par l'action du vent, des précipitations et du gel. Les roches prennent ici des couleurs exceptionnelles allant du rouge au blanc.
Il ne devait pas faire beaucoup plus que 0°C lorsque nous sommes arrivés ce matin là... Des couches de neige parsèment encore les roches ici et là. Il faut dire que contrairement au parc national de Zion, Bryce Canyon se trouve à une altitude plus élevée (entre 2400 et 2700 mètres). Après la chaleur désertique de Death Valley, nous nous frottons au froid des montagnes de l'Utah.
Un petit vent glacial fait que nous nous dépêchons de prendre les photos panoramiques pour commencer au plus vite une rando qui descent entre les hoodos pour se protéger du vent et se réchauffer... La vue d'en bas est tout aussi spectaculaire et vaut vraiment le détour. Le ciel dégagé d'un bleu azur fait un contraste saisissant avec les roches rouge-orangé et nous commençons à avoir trop chaud... Nous avons bien retiré trois couches de vêtements entre le début et la fin de notre randonnée.
Puis, au détour d'un hoodo, je me suis fait un nouvel ami: un "chipmunk" (plus communément connu sous le nom de "écureuil rayé" en francais si vous préférez...).

Attiré par l'odeur de chips resté sur mes doigts, j'en ai profité pour le filmer d'un peu plus près :

Zion National Park - Utah

Après une bonne nuit de sommeil dans un motel situé dans la petite ville de Page (44$ la nuit pour 4 après négociations...), nous reprenons la route de notre 'Road Trip'.
Premier stop obligé pour admirer la vue sur le lac Powell. Puis, après environ une heure de route, nous prenons un détour sur une route non amenagée pour admirer la beauté des paysages et de ces roches dont la palette de dégradés rouges nous laisse rêveurs. Après quelques miles, notre voiture de location blanc immaculé ne l'était plus vraiment...
Finalement, nous arrivons en milieu de journée à Zion National Park en Utah. A cette période de l'année, les voitures particulières ne sont pas autorisées dans l'intégralité du parc mais un service de bus relie les principaux chemins de randonnées. Nous profitons de la fin d'après-midi pour faire une petite randonnée.

Grand Canyon - Arizona !

Lot of miles to drive again today as we plan to visit Hoover Dam and Grand Canyon.

Located at about 45 minutes driving from Las Vegas, Hoover Dam is a concrete arch-gravity dam in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River, on the border between the U.S. states of Arizona and Nevada. When completed in 1935, it was both the world's largest electric power producing facility and the world's largest concrete structure. The dam, located 30 miles (48 km) southeast of Las Vegas, is named after Herbert Hoover, who played an instrumental role in its construction, first as Secretary of Commerce and then later as President of the United States.
Lake Mead is the reservoir created behind the dam, named after Elwood Mead, who oversaw the construction of the dam.

A four hours driving later, we finally arrive at Grand Canyon National Park!
The Grand Canyon is a steep-sided gorge carved by the Colorado River in the U.S. state of Arizona. It is largely contained within the Grand Canyon National Park — one of the first national parks in the United States. President Theodore Roosevelt was a major proponent of preservation of the Grand Canyon area, and visited on numerous occasions to hunt and enjoy the scenery. The canyon is 277 miles (446 km) long, ranges in width from 4 to 18 miles (6.4 to 29 km) and attains a depth of more than a mile (1.6 km).
We visited the South Rim which is more famous compare to the North Rim.
A service of buses is at your disposition to bring you to the major view points. As it is pretty high in altitude and it was windy that day, we all catch a cold for the rest of our vacation...
