Notting Hill Carnival

SmileyCentral.com After a 10 hours flight from San Francisco to London (626$ round trip per person!) here we are in Europe!
It was the perfect time to visit London. The weather was exceptionally sunny and it was the week-end of the famous Notting Hill Carnival, the largest Carnival in Europe!
It was also very nice seeing Nathalie again, who came to visit us in San Jose 3 months ago.

For your information, the Notting Hill Carnival has been taking place in London, on the last weekend in August, every year since 1965. This great festival began initially from the energies of Black immigrants from the Caribbean, particularly from Trinidad, where the Carnival tradition is very strong, and from people living locally who dreamed of creating a festival to bring together the people of Notting Hill, most of whom were facing racism, lack of working opportunities, and poor housing conditions resulting in a general suppression of good self-esteem.

Six disciplines go to make up the carnival as we know it today. Mas' (masquerade), Steel band, Calypso (political, social and satirical commentary, set to music), Soca (the traditional music of Carnival, a fusion of Soul and Calypso), Static Sound Systems, and Samba all play their part in the Carnival.

After this long afternoon in the entertaining music, a good restaurant was more than welcome!
We choose a Lebanese restaurant that I will never forget…

Indeed, we ordered some dishes with meat. Yum-Yum, that sounded very yummy. Once the dish arrived, it looked like chicken in pieces. Once in my mouth, it tasted not too good and like liver. Out of curiosity, Jean asked the waiter what kind of meat was that. He nicely answered: “Those are Lamb testicles, Sir…”. SmileyCentral.com

At least, they could specify in their menu what is in each dish because everything was in traditional names and we could not imagine what part of the lamb they will cook…
Whatever, one should try everything!
